Cattle raising is a tradition in Nicargua
Cattle raising has been a fundamental economic rubric in the Nicaraguan exportations for more than 150 years. In the year 1887 Nicaragua exported 1,207 livestock to the Central American market and 30.000 pounds of bovine leather; (1) activities which represented 10% of the exportation of the country.
Meat exportation began in the year 1959 when Nicaragua was certified to export to The United States and it was mainly destined to that market. Nicaragua cattle is predominantly Barhman, crossbred with European breeds such as, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Simmental among others.
